Perrywood Arts hosted the first ‘Art in the Park’ event at the King George’s Playing Field, Park Avenue, Sittingbourne on Sunday 21st August.  The weather was warm and mostly sunny which contributed to a carnival feel.  The field looked lovely with gazebos full of wonderful art and artists demonstrating their skills.  There were more than 400 visitors with over a hundred taking part in workshops including painting, drawing, flower-making, decorating bunting, woodworking and mosaics (When the mosaic is finished it will be put onto the wall of the lodge in the park for all to see and a picture will be posted on this website}.  There was a lusty performance by Swale Sings community choir  to get the rhythym going and graceful and colourful performances during the afternoon by the middle-eastern dance duo ‘Simarik’.
We would like to extend our thanks to the following for their contribution in making the day so enjoyable:
all the members of both the Sittingbourne Art Association and the Sheppey Evangelical Art Group, Gemma and Ben of ‘Thisartofmine’, Sarah Allsop (artist), Lorcadia Munikwa (handmade jewellery and batik), Anne Wimsett (artist), the members of Swale Sings choir and Maud and Sylvia of ‘Simarik’ – and of course the members of the Perrywood Art group.  We would also like to thank Colin, Jane, Chloe and Sam of Park Snacks for their support, Amy for the photography and demonstrating the doodle tops, Nathan and Ash for their muscle power and helping out when and where asked, Claire, Nicola and Val for helping without being asked and Sid for giving Bob a hand when needed, Suz Elvey of KRNM for the newspaper coverage and last but not least Jean and Alan Willicombe for their support both with the funding of the event via Swale Borough Council’s community project grant funding scheme and for coming along on the day and trying their hand at various art forms.
We hope this event will be repeated next year and any artist interested should make contact via this website.

Finally we would like to thank all the visitors who came along and took part and for their positive and kind comments.

The Perrywood Arts Group is organising an “Art in the Park” event on Sunday 21st August 2011 in the King George Playing field, Park Avenue, Sittingbourne, ME10 1QX from 11am-5pm.

The intention is to bring different art forms to the notice of the public and to encourage them to “have a go” where applicable.  It is an opportunity for each group to showcase their work and gain new membership, and also to see what other groups are doing.  We hope it will be a fun event for all who participate.

This event is free of charge and there are parking, toilets and a café within the park.
